East End Trolley Stand

The Trolley Stand was built in the early 1900s at the northern edge of an area once known as East End Park, an entertainment complex near Overton Square. Long after the park closed and the trolley stopped running, the Trolley Stand remained in place — deserted, deteriorating and hidden from view on Poplar Avenue near Belleair Drive.

In March 2012, Preservation Memphis raised $6,000 to move the Trolley Stand to the north side of Poplar and restore the structure. Completed in April 2012, the restoration involved replacing the roof and rotten wood, and painting the structure — to turn it into a functional MATA bus stop on the edge of Overton Park.
